ZhonLord The description for this one is decidedly lacking. Tears to Tiara takes place in a world where dragons, giants, and elves/feyfolk each were the dominant beings of an era, and now they have faded to near-extinction as humanity has spread across the world in turn. The resurrection is being performed by a minister of the empire that the Gael tribe is in alliance with, causing them to lose their faith in the alliance and strike off on their own rather than be trampled. And what follows is a combination of hero's journey, the founding of a nation, and rebellion against those who've decided it's humanity's turn to go extinct. And the incredible part is, all three of those overarching plots blend together seamlessly. This anime is extraordinarily well-written, managing to combine a variety of plot points, events, and character arcs into a grand adventure that naturally grows in scale as the series goes on. All of the characters are well-written, each with layers and motivations that keep them from being stereotypes - even the antagonists have an enjoyable depth to them, particularly Gaius. Arawn himself is a treat to behold, starting off seeming a callous uncaring demon until pieces of his past start to be put together. He quickly reveals his true nature and has quite the story to him. The dialogue is serviceable but not outstanding, it captures emotions well and there's a natural motion that each character goes through as they talk. But where the animation shines, is the combat. I haven't seen fights this well-coreographed and realistic in a long time. The animation pays attention to footing, the motion of the sword swing, even the characters with magic or superhuman abilities have a flow to their movements that matches their abilities. The show also has a strong slow-but-steady pace that only has a few periods of little going on, and those are used for character development and/or lighthearted moments. The music, on the other hand: very, very repetitive. The opening intro and a few specific moments have excellent music, the rest is repeats of previous uses of the same background tunes. All in all Tears to Tiara is a grand epic and well worth watching, with only a few blemishes on the presentation that are more than made up for by the characters, plot and action.
