ZhonLord At this point Madoka Magica has become infamous in the anime world, but as there are always new watchers coming in here's what you need to know. This anime starts off looking like it'll just be a magical girl anime with some dark elements, but in short order reveals itself to have much loftier goals in mind. There's not much I can say about the plot without spoiling major elements, unfortunately. What I can talk about, however, is that the characters are all fantastic with clear motivations and actions/behaviors that make perfect sense to their views and upbringings. The artwork seems simple at first but explodes into life and color as soon as the first Witch is revealed. The pacing is excellent, the fights are gorgeous, and every character's emotions and responses leap off the screen into life. You may have heard this described as "magical girl with a twist" or "a subversion of the magical girl genre." It's more than that. It's a powerful new direction that broke ground for many new stories to follow in its wake, including the now-airing Spec-Ops Asuka. It was a game changer that still holds up in strength and storytelling potential even to this day. Strap in, get ready for a ride and PLEASE DON'T SPOIL ANYTHING FOR YOURSELF IN ADVANCE!
