Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

The life of Satou Kazuma, a hikikomori who likes games, all too soon came to an end because of a traffic accident... It was supposed to, but when he woke up, a beautiful girl who called herself a goddess was in front of his eyes. "Hey, I have got something a little nice for you. Wanna go to another world? You can take only one thing of your choice along with you." "...then I'll take you." From here on, the great adventure of subjugating the Demon King will begin for the reincarnated Kazuma... Or so one would think, but it's the labor for obtaining food, clothing and shelter that begins! Despite Kazuma wanting to live in peace, the goddess keeps causing problems one after another, and eventually, they attract the attention of the Demon King's army!?

ZhonLord How many shows can you think of that made you feel genuinely bad for the villains? For me, only Kono Suba comes to mind. This isekai show is a story of laughs and misfortunes framed in a now-common genre, and every single episode got at least a chuckle out of me. There are a few things that make this show stand out from other isekais. First and foremost is the sheer amount of misfortune the protagonist Kazuma goes through. On the surface he’s got the perfect party – a potent healer and purifier, a frontline tank, a deadly mage, and himself as the attacker – but that’s only on the surface. The quirks and drawbacks that he has to deal with are ridiculous, especially for someone just starting out as an adventurer. There’s an extraordinary amount of comedic value in the things that go wrong for this guy, with the scale of misfortune only growing as his skills and allies become more capable and complete. It’s RELENTLESS! The second thing is the incredible amount of personality in the entire cast. Every single character is glowing with unique traits and quirks from random kids in the background to other adventurers that I desperately want to know the names and stories of, heroes and villains alike. That’s INSANELY hard to pull off in a full 24-episode season, let alone the 10 that each season has here. The pacing is perfect, pure and simple. Third and final is the show’s overall theme. Every isekai show seems to go for an overarching single-word theme; Slime is optimism, Overlord is power, Shield Hero is desperation, etc. Kono Suba’s single word is “Fun”. Even when things never go the main cast’s way, even when they get all their stuff repossessed to pay off a collateral-damage debt and have to start over, the show as a whole is having so much fun that it’s nearly impossible to not get invested. It has its moments of grandiose awesomeness of course, and its serious times, but fun is what the watcher primarily experiences one way or another. Great animation and good music, just be aware there will be unrealistically bouncy chests on almost every woman in the show. Overall Kono Suba is simply a blast (Put that staff down Megumin!) and enjoyable from beginning to end. If you’re deciding whether to try it, consider this a ringing endorsement.
