IntenseIntrovert Uhmm... mmm... Welll... I have some mixed feelings about this episode. It was probably the last moment to introduce or expand some individual backstories about the Fullbringers and make the viewers feel great compassion for all of them, but if that was the mission of this episode, it failed in my case - it didn't move my heart at all. None of those stories were explored in depth, none were clear or covincing, and none explained why exactly all those people 'went bad' and joined the 'dark side'. It only strenghtened my opinion that the only Fullbringer worth aknowledgement and respect was Jackie, who (as far as we can tell from those short flashbacks from her past) really DID have some tragic story, full of horrible pain, grief and justified anger, which awakened her special powers... Only in her case I can believe that some long-lasting despair made her reach for some desperate solutions, such as joining the Fullbringers group. And only she hated her powers from the start, and in the end she was willing and ready to get rid of them on her own, even if it meant her own death, instead of relying on Tsukishima, Ginjo or other capricious and suspicious Fullbringers. Only she was able to see her own dignity and honour as something more valuable than some temporary victory or power, and only she was able to recognise the same nobleness in her opponent, and she respected him for that, which in turn make ME respect HER as a worthy person and an interesting character. But all the other Fullbringers seem to be just a bunch of some arrogant, cocky, cheeky, power-hungry idiots, or some spoiled, silly, shallow, selfish kids... I mean... None of their stories, at least in those super-short version that we see in the anime, justify their secluded life, avoiding all the rest of the society, ganging up to fight others, playing with other people as if they were toys or pawns in their games, hurting, kidnapping or imprisoning them, stealing their powers or threatening and trying to kill them. Ginjo and Tsukishima are just mad, power-hungry bastards, Riruka and Yukio are creepy kids who are ready to harm others just 'for fun' - the story about Riruka's childhood friend and what she did to him was just disgusting... Yes, I know 'she was just a child', and she did release him when she saw that he was unhappy in her 'pink paradise', among all the fluffy toys and sweet cakes, but for goodness sake! She imprisoned a MAN as if he was a PET! And Yukio causing his own parents to commit a suicide, just because they didn't pay enough attention to him? Really? That's sad and shouldn't happen to any child, but REALLY? I don't know, perhaps those stories are better explained and explored in the manga, and I will definitely read them very carefully it that's the case, and then who knows? I might still change my mind about those crazy people. But right now I just think - what a bunch of losers, they are just pathetic, with or without powers, trying to justify their crimes with some sad 'sob stories' from their lonely childhood, while the truth (as I currently see it) is that they could live a pefectly normal life with their families, friends and all the rest of the society, if they just coped with their own problems in some normal way, same as everyone else - instead of overusing their creepy 'super powers' for some stupid shallow reasons in the first place... they are all just so selfish and weak, raging against the whole world for not a single good reason, blabbering about some minority versus majority battles, 'survival of the fittest' and the cruel world full of predators fighting against the victims - while nobody even persecuted them or endangered their 'special existence' in the first place, normal people were simply scared of their powers or just didn't like being used, manipulated, imprisoned or bossed around by them - HOW SHOCKING! (At least that's how I understand their super-short stories). Again, with the exception of Jackie, as far as I can tell without reading the manga, and perhaps with the exception of Kutzusawa too - his story also suggests that his power was probably used not for his personal gain but to save someone from death or illness in the beginning (?), but it seems that he overused this power somehow and lost the eye as a result of putting too much strain on himself. Maybe. I'm not sure. But again, it's really hard to say anything definite about any of them, because all those stories are shown in some super-short flashbacks, so I don't know what to think about them, really. As a viewer I feel that I'm expected to feel compasion for all of them at this point, but I only feel sorry for Jackie, confused about Kutzusawa and just indifferent about all the others - I simply dislike them all (and feel special hatred for that bastard Ginjo).----- Anyway, changing the subject - what surprised me about this episode was Ikkaku saying some VERY WISE words in his dialogue with Shishigawara in the begining. I would never expect him, of all people, to be philosophising, but I totally agree with his words - which is a very nice surprise at the end of the series, because it gives me one more reason to like him, this time for something else than just the beauty of his fighting style. And the second surprise was the discovery that Captain Kuchiki was... actually bored all this time, until he got the chance to fight Tsukishima, because it was the first fight in which he experienced 'the ecstasy of existing in the moment between life and death'. I know that he's a very powerful Shinigami who usually wins his every fight, but I thought that all of them go to every single fight being prepared to die, and now we learn (all of a sudden) that Byakuya has never really felt the fear od death until now... Hmm... I'm not convinced, somehow. There were at least a few fights and some other dramatic situations in his life until this point of the story that could have ended tragically too, so I think that this part of his dialogue was a bit exaggerated for dramatic effect, just to emphasise Tsukishima overwhelming powers... But that's my last point ---- Tsukishima rewriting not only people's minds, but 'inserting himself' even into the 'memory' or 'history' of the inanimate objects, or surroundings, to change them according to his current wishes, and 'reading' all secrets of Byakuya's techniques, honed during all his long lifetime, in a matter of seconds? I think this villain and his abilities were WAAAAY exaggerated... It's just all too convinient for the plot development. Nevertheless, Captain Kuchiki has proven that he's a truly experienced fighter, who not only has great spiritual power, but also sound battle instincts, allowing him to 'think on his feet' and adapt to the situation fast enough to change any disadvantage into a new strategy or weapon, so kudos to him.
