Night You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough. Because in the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take. Barakamon is an anime full of comedy that will surprise you. I'd been looking forward to seeing the series since it came out. Who could have guessed that this anime will hold my interest? I'm always looking for a masterpiece anime to watch, but anime series nowadays lack the urgency and thematic depth to show. Barakamon, on the other hand, is a good example of the opposite. This story is about Seishuu Handa (voiced by Daisuke Ono), a young man full of enthusiasm for his job as a calligrapher. Because of his artistic skill, he has quite a big ego. His work is considered to be perfect since Handa has outstanding talent. Things get quite interesting when the director of an exhibition criticizes his work for lacking a personal touch and not being as great as Handa expected. This is when Handa loses his temper and delivers a rage-filled punch to the old man. As a result, Handa is sent to an island near Kyushu to cool down and take a break from his work as a calligrapher. His father has a house built on that island. As soon as he arrives at the Goto Island, he is already welcomed by a tomboyish little girl named Naru who has been staying at the house all this time. Here, Handa who had thought of himself as perfect and did not allow other people to try fix his life or do something about his temper slowly grows into fixing it by himself. Living on the island turns out to be a good lesson for Handa. Character Handa is actually a good person but lacks determination as he doesn't really have a friend besides his family and one best friend who didn't expect him to be successful as a calligrapher at first. Indeed, Handa could be considered perfect since he is good-looking, wealthy, and living a dream. A lack of hardship as well as having no real friends is probably a factor as to why Handa doesn't pay attention to attitude or behavior. Handa began to trust only his own opinion and cast out others from his life. Thus, Handa has a hard time when it comes to dealing with others and finds it frustrating. As the story goes on, Handa's behavior is sometimes more immature than Naru's. Handa acts like a kid who doesn’t need help from his parents, and yet Handa becomes a real man by the end of series. Eventually, Handa's personality begins to soften and he becomes gentle to others. The island's population is small but they all act like one big family. Handa finds out that it is nice to have people to rely on which also inspires him to be a better person and a better calligrapher. Naru, who also finds Handa quite interesting as he just arrived on the island, is slowly trying to become his close friend even though she's still a kid. The kid always hangs out around Handa and follows him every chance she gets. I also find it refreshing how villagers of all ages accept Handa without prejudice even though Hiroshi (a high school student) thinks he is just a pretty face but actually worthless. Nevertheless, kids, old men, high school students and people of every gender become close to Handa in no time. This is kind of training for Handa to achieve his dream and to improve his behavior and attitude. Since, yeah, even if you're angry, do you punch some helpless old man? It becomes quite dramatic. I even shed tears. Yes, sad tears - I cried because of the sadness that built up in me. I felt like it reflected me who didn't feel anything at first but if you really think about it, it feels just like a punch to your parent. If your parent is being punched by someone, can you still sit and watch without feeling anything? That's more than enough of a reason for me to feel guilty, I can't bear it. Well, enough of me being a crybaby and back to the main story. Handa gets into sticky situation after sticky situation with Naru, Hiroshi and the high school student girls as long as he in the island. At the end of the series, it's not only Handa who learn from his mistake, yes, I am talking about myself, too. I need to build up more attitudes myself. This is what I call learning while watching. Enjoyment and Overall I found this series' concept to be pretty amazing. It teaches you how to behave towards people who are older than you. Not like some people out there who don't give a damn over this matter. I, without a doubt, found it really interesting. I really enjoyed the series from episode one but it's all thanks to the good work of the producers. They have successfully created a good anime series. This series is also quite entertaining since I always laugh out during each episode at the characters' behavior. A good anime with a lot of creativity here. You'll feel like wanting to watch it again. Handa's mother will also play an important part later on and it's of the funniest parts. Enjoy it to your heart's content. Also make sure you have a tissue paper, too. Believe me, Barakamon is the winner of this season. Barakamon does such a good job showing both the funny and serious aspects of life. I have no regrets after watching the series. I actually found it quite fun to watch. Personally, I'm considering Barakamon to be one of my favorite shows of all time. This series is certainly outrageous anime that is more than meets the eye. Highly recommended to all anime fans.
